In his review, Thierry Nguyen called Spore a “flawed effort in five different genres.” Spore Hero for Wii hopes to remedy that by condensing the multi-genre title into a story-based adventure. Instead of fighting your way up from a microscopic cell to space-conquering superpower, you spend your time in Hero as a fully-grown creature. It combines multiplayer and more control over your creature to create a game that, while firmly set in the Spore “universe,” clearly operates as a completely independent game.
In Spore Hero’s story, some evil-looking red meteors lands on a planet, and all the creatures who touch them start acting out their primitive, violent tendencies. It just so happens that you land on the same planet, but on a giant blue rock. Since you’re the good guy, the blue meteor doesn’t have any ill effects. But, as you might’ve guess from the title, it’s your job to be the “hero” and destroy every trace of the evil red rock. The Spore elements come from the customization options you have to make yourself look… pretty much any way you want.
