Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles may not come out until November 27 in the UK, but a gaggle of Resident Evil fans recently took to the streets to celebrate the impending release regardless. Following the end of the London Games Festival, Capcom organized around 50 undead at the Tate Modern for a good ol’ group shamble.

As you can see in the image above captured by The Tanooki, the event erred on the side of Shaun of the Dead rather than 28 Days Later. Though now that we think about it, we’re not sure if it’s more or less terrifying if zombies are smiling. We’re thinking more.

As always, here’s Monday, and Nintendo has given us a full lineup of downloadable games.  For DSiWare, we have a new camera app that seems to have girls in mind, a strategy game about vikings, and a dragon-fighter.  On the WiiWare front, we get a carnival game from the makers of Target Toss Pro, a puzzle game for kids and families, and the family (Daddy, Mommy, Billy, & Sarah) are back again for some card games.  Finally, at the end of our 8 game list, we’ve got the Virtual Console with the Turbo Grafix CD version of Fighting Street and the Sega Master System version of R-Type.  With many new games this week, it was hard to find screen and videos, but check out what we have below, along with the original PR from Nintendo.

Nintendo DSi

In an interview with the Financial Times, Nintendo are considering adding free 3G to the next DS system. They propose adding an addition fee to the cost of the unit in order to provide this service.

“Only people who can pay thousands of yen a month [in mobile phone subscriptions] can be iPhone customers. That doesn’t fit Nintendo customers because we make amusement products. In reality, if we did this it would increase the cost of the hardware, and customers would complain about Nintendo putting prices up, but it is one option for the future.”

This week’s Virtual Console releases kind of pale in comparison to last week’s stellar offerings; Fighting Street is a crummy game that helped spawn one of gaming’s best series, whereas R-TYPE is a great game, though the version offered this week is the lousier port. There’s been a way more competent version of the game available since 2006!

  • Fighting Street (TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
  • R-TYPE (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)

Every week, we like to check out what’s new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we’re pushy jerks like that.

forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.phpWe know about the “big picture” changes made to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the North American release (and the Japanese re-release to follow): online play, new characters, no Hakushon Daimao. But those aren’t the only changed. In every iteration of its fighting games, Capcom tweaks tiny behaviors and damage effects to balance the game.

The fighting game obsessives at Shoryuken have produced a list of minute changes that will affect how the game works. For example, the Megacrash move (which pushes the opponent to the opposite side of the screen) now pushes up in addition to away. And Roll’s air dash is faster. Check out the wonderfully informative post for plenty more details that we never, ever would have noticed.

This week’s Nintendo Channel highlight is obviously the play session of New Super Mario Bros. with Nintendo Week hosts Gary and Alison, along with Nintendo’s Bill Trinen and gaming icon Shigeru Miyamoto — a video which even has a brief look at Excitebike World Rally. It’s not that there’s anything terribly exciting or new in this video, but, well … we just love New Super Mario Bros.! Is that such a bad thing?

Oh, and by the way, Shiggy is totally a tweaker.

While there are still a few games that you’ll want to purchase, this is one of the mildest Novembers we can remember. Why, there’s hardly anything you’ll have to have after you pick up Assassin’s Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins and … oh who are we kidding? No one’s wallet is getting out of here alive.

Stop Stress sounds like one of those My Coach non-games for DS: based on the title, we’d assume it would be full of relaxing exercises and tips about reducing the strain of daily life. But Abylight’s Stop Stress: A Day of Fury on WiiWare encourages its players to take their stress out on the virtual world by beating everything nearby to pieces.

Swinging the Wii Remote to control the arm of Jack, a stressed-out guy in a world that grows increasingly hostile as he gets more worked up, players use bats, axes, and other weapons to smash everything in sight. According to the ESRB description, “One mission is to ‘search and destroy all the alarm-clocks’ by using a soft slipper; another mission requires players to ‘break all the windows and escape from the evil traffic jam.’”

Publisher Abylight expects to release Stop Stress this fall. Try not to get too anxious for it!
