Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has become known for his opinions, particularly about Valve. Having recently suggested that Valve’s connection to Steam is a “conflict of interest,” Pitchford is now calling the studio’s stance on the PlayStation 3 “childish.”
“I noticed something on the net not too long ago. Doug Lombardi (Valve?s VP Marketing) had to take a swipe at the PS3 again, and I thought it was foolish. I read it the same way I read fanboys,” Pitchford told Official PlayStation Magazine UK (via ScrawlFX), also noting that he thinks the platform is “really cool.”
“Like there’s a guy who brought the Sony platform and he’s a Sony guy, so he decides he’s going to spend a certain percentage of his time bashing Microsoft. And there’s a guy on Microsoft doing the same thing. Those guys are childish and narrow-minded, it’s the same kind of thing.”

PopCap and Square Enix have announced that Gyromancer, the result of their collaboration to make a game combining Bejeweled Twist and the general experience and level-gaining elements of a Final Fantasy, is set for release on Xbox Live Arcade and PC on November 18 (via Shacknews).
If “a cross between Bejeweled and Final Fantasy” sounds familiar to you, then you’ve probably heard of or played Puzzle Quest. PopCap and Square Enix don’t really seem to be hiding the fact that Gyromancer will be a direct competitor to the popular puzzle/RPG hybrid, though, so it’ll be interesting to see if the higher profile names attached to it help Gyromancer catch up to the surprising success of D3 Publisher’s franchise.
If you’re interested, the game will run you 1200 Microsoft points or $15 dollars.

For a company that’s long been notorious for delaying their games, is it any surprise to see they’d be cagey about committing to anything so early in a project’s development? Speaking to Geoff Keighley on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was very deliberate in not setting a release timeframe for the new Legend of Zelda in development for the Wii.
“We haven’t committed to Zelda in 2010,” Reggie elusively said. Keighley clarified that Miyamoto has so far said the game is “tracking” for 2010. “That’s what he said, and we’ll see how that continues to develop,” retorted Reggie.
He did, however, reconfirm that Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M are committed to 2010, so that’s at least two big titles to look forward to next year, Wii fans. And looking more toward the immediate future, Reggie also made a bold challenge to Infinity Ward: He predicted that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360 by the end of the holiday season.

It’s one thing to send Tales of Vesperia to the PlayStation 3, but how about the Wii? That may be exactly what happens, as popular Japanese voice actor Rikiya Koyama has reportedly leaked the news that Namco-Bandai is planning on porting the game once again (via Kotaku).
“Tales of Vesperia is coming out on one thing after another: Xbox 360, then PS3, and now upcoming, goes on sale even on the Wii,” he wrote on his <a href="http://blog.livedoor.jp/rikiya_no_kimochi/" target=_blank?official blog.
“More shortly, the feature film anime version is also opening in theaters (But I’m not in it…), and after that, there’s also a CD.”

Retro updates are all the rage these days, so what’s next on the docket. According to the veteran developer Mark Turmell, it may be Smash TV.
In an interview on Retrogaming with Racketboy, the Smash TV programmer discussed the game at length, and also made mention of a potential sequel. Unfortunately, while it appears that the 3D revival actually made it into the programming stages, progress was halted when the situation at Midway deteriorated.
Smash TV was an arcade game originally developed in 1990 that depicted a violent game show. It was eventually ported to a number of systems, including the Sega Genesis and Super NES, and is fondly remembered for its difficulty and catchphrases like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!”

One of the chief complaints about Guitar Hero and Rock Band is that people ought to just learn how to play the real thing. Well, that may actually happen with Rock Band 3.
Having previously helped get The Beatles Rock Band off the ground, Dhani Harrison has reportedly stayed on to consult on Rock Band 3. The son of Beatle George Harrison told the Chicago Tribune that he wants to make the controllers “more real” for the next game (via Plastic Axe).
“I’m working on Rock Band 3′ and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game,” Harrison said.

Once again we’re approaching Thanksgiving, and it promises another November filled with turkey binges, football, and holiday deals due to the the national shopping tradition known as Black Friday. After a full year of poor economic conditions, retailers are hoping to turn the tide with a flurry of sales. We’re already seeing flyers leak, and we want you to find the best deals to save some money on gifts for family (and yourself). We’ve culled this year’s advertisements and compiled all we could find here for your shopping convenience.
Keep in mind that everything listed is only available while supplies last, and for particularly cheap or rare items that’s not going to be very long. Consoles are listed by price, and games are in alphabetical order. Some retailers are holding special sales on days other than Black Friday, so those are listed separately by date. And we’ll be updating this list regularly, so check back often to see what’s been added. If you see anything missing, feel free to call it out in the comments and we’ll get it included as well. Happy shopping.
